What is Lens Registry?
Lens Registry is a searchable reference for cinema lens identity, history, ownership context, service records, and recovery signals. It is operated by Duclos Lenses, Inc. as a resource for owners, rental houses, technicians, buyers, sellers, and the broader lens community.
Do I need an account to search the registry?
No. Basic registry search is public. Anyone can look up lens serial numbers and view public registry information when it is available.
How many lenses are in Lens Registry?
As of 2026, approximately 30,100 lenses are accounted for in Lens Registry. That number continues to grow as new lenses are registered, historical records are imported, and duplicate records are reviewed.
How far back do the records go?
Some imported Duclos Lenses service and history records reach back to the mid-1990s. Not every lens has a complete timeline, but the registry is designed to preserve older service, ownership, inspection, grading, and provenance details whenever reliable records are available.
What kinds of lenses are recorded?
Lens Registry can record cinema lenses, still photography lenses, rehoused lenses, modified lenses, zooms, primes, anamorphic lenses, specialty optics, and related lens systems. The emphasis is primarily on cinema lenses and lenses used in motion-picture production, but useful records are not limited to one category.
Why should I create an account?
An account lets you claim lenses, manage owner context, register lenses, and access owner-specific tools as they become available. Account confirmation helps protect records from unauthorized changes.
Does Lens Registry prove legal ownership?
No. Lens Registry is an informational reference, not a title service, legal ownership authority, appraisal service, marketplace, insurance service, or law enforcement service. Ownership records and claims can provide useful context, but they do not replace legal documentation.
How do ownership claims work?
If a lens is already in the registry, an account holder may submit an ownership claim with supporting context. The Lens Registry team reviews claims and may request additional information before updating owner-related records.
What lens information is public?
Serial numbers and basic registry details may be public. Timeline dates may also be public. Owner identity, detailed private notes, and certain service details are not public by default unless made visible through an authorized workflow.
Where does service history come from?
The vast majority of registry data is collected through decades of service records from Duclos Lenses service history as well as LensLog inspections, CLeW Grade data, owner-submitted information, and other provenance details. Registry records may be updated or corrected as better information becomes available.
Can I register a lens that is not listed yet?
Yes. Account holders can register lenses that are not already listed. Newly submitted records may be reviewed, expanded, merged, or corrected if matching history or duplicate records are found later.
What should I do if a record is wrong?
Use the contact form and include the lens serial number plus any supporting details. The team can review corrections, ownership questions, duplicate records, or outdated information.
How do stolen or found lens reports work?
If a lens is suspected stolen or found in a questionable listing, Lens Registry can collect report details to help identify and review the record. Theft-related information may be made public when appropriate to support recovery and responsible review.
Will Lens Registry email me?
We send account, confirmation, password reset, security, ownership, service, and registry-related messages as needed. If you join the mailing list or give communication permission, Duclos Lenses and Lens Registry may also send relevant updates and announcements.
How is my information handled?
Lens Registry collects information needed to operate accounts, maintain records, review claims, respond to requests, and protect the registry. For more detail, see Privacy & Terms.
